Stress is a normal and natural part of life, and can even be beneficial at times, motivating us and keeping us alert. However, when stress becomes chronic, it negatively impacts our mental, emotional, and physical health. Stress management helps us cope with the demands of a busy and well-lived life, manage emotional health, prevent burnout, and reduce the risk of stress-related health problems.

Our approach?

  • Our multi-specialty team treats stress (and its impact on mood, cognitive performance, and other body systems) from several angles at once.
  • We look for nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalance, neurotransmitter imbalance and even digestive issues that can worsen our experience of stress.
  • We also examine behaviors, breathing, and thought patterns that make stress management more difficult and impact performance and cognitive function.
  • Providers help you create a personalized plan to restore balance, resiliency and excellent health.
  • We support you every step of the way in your journey to lead a balanced and healthy life and to perform at your best.

Do you (or your doctor) suspect that stress is contributing to a health symptom or condition, like high blood pressure, headaches, or insomnia?

Do you want to optimize your cognitive performance?

  • Being stressed causes the body to go into "fight or flight" mode, which diverts blood and other resources away from the brain and toward the muscles. This makes it difficult to think and stay focused. Stress also activates the production of stress hormones, such as cortisol, which can damage brain cells and impair brain function. At Spark Health, we develop individualized plans to reduce your stress in order to improve cognitive performance and improve your body and brain to function at their best.
  • In biofeedback, heart rate variability (HRV) is a measure of the beat-to-beat changes in heart rate. It is a marker of the body's ability to adapt to stress and is thought to be a good indicator of overall health. Studies have shown that high HRV is associated with improved physical and mental health. Spark Health provides a personalized program for you to improve HRV, optimizing cognitive performance and overall health.

Frequently Asked Questions

As part of your initial visit your provider will discuss which treatments, they would recommend for you, based on your unique expression of stress and preferences. If you are particularly interested in a specific treatment, the provider can be sure to include that in your treatment plan.

Talk therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy is beneficial for many people. However, everyone presents their stress differently. For example, one person may have racing thoughts of stressful events in their life and another person may have muscle tension. Talk therapy may benefit these individuals, but perhaps getting to the root cause of muscle tension needs biofeedback (a way to re-train the muscle from tensing when stress is present).

Yes! These treatments work synergistically with each other and can be used together.

Craniosacral therapy is a type of bodywork that uses gentle touch to manipulate the bones of the head, spine, and pelvis. It is based on the theory that there is a subtle, rhythmic pulse in the central nervous system, which can be felt throughout the body and is thought to be important for overall health. Practitioners of craniosacral therapy believe that they can detect and correct imbalances in the craniosacral system by applying light touch to the head, spine, and other parts of the body. Craniosacral therapy is used to treat a variety of conditions, including chronic pain, stress, and migraines.

Visceral manipulation is a type of manual therapy that aims to improve the functioning of the internal organs and the musculoskeletal system. It is based on the theory that the internal organs and the structures that support them (such as the fascia and ligaments) can become restricted or out of balance, leading to pain and other health problems. Visceral manipulation practitioners use gentle, specific techniques to manipulate the organs and surrounding structures, with the goal of releasing restrictions, improving organ function and relieving pain and other symptoms. Visceral manipulation is used to treat a variety of conditions, including abdominal pain, constipation, and painful periods.

Biofeedback is a technique that involves measuring a person's physiological responses, such as heart rate, blood pressure, skin temperature, and muscle tension, and providing the person with real-time feedback on these responses. The goal of biofeedback is to help people learn to control their body's responses and improve their physical and mental health.
